James’ Cool Trick

Hey everyone I have found a cool trick in Illustrator that I want to show:

I found this cool trick from this page here thanks to Tony Soh who shows in his About section that he has created many Illustrator tutorials for people to see and knows of many cool tricks in Illustrator.

One of the cool tricks that I learned from him that I want to share with you guys here is how to work with the tilde key. For those who do not know what the tilde key is or have never heard of the tilde key before, it’s this key: ~ (located next to “1” key)

It turns out that there are a lot of cool tricks that someone can do in Illustrator using this key! By just pressing down this key while using Illustrator, you can drag and create new shapes following the direction of the mouse. One can also use it with other shape tools in the tool palette. Even more cool and interesting is you can combine using the tilde key with the Alt, Option, Shift, Command, and Spacebar keys and make more cool and interesting art!

Here are some cool pictures of what Soh made in Illustrator using the tilde key along with other keys:

Here are some screenshots of the art I tried to make in Illustrator using the tilde key and other keys along with it:

It’s a lot of fun and I definitely recommend this to everyone! I also feel like the Tilde key is often ignored and people don’t often notice it so I think that makes it even more interesting for us all to use!
