Inspired by the tattoo he had gotten of a Koi fish on his arm, Nick decided to create a piece based off of it, using Adobe Illustrator:
As you can see, there are a lot of gradients in this piece in particular, a lot of which were probably created through the use of something called an “opacity mask”. This is super rad because creates the illusion of shadow and highlights in places like the fish head and fins, something that people don’t typically associate with a program that utilizes so many flattened shapes. An opacity mask works similarly to how a clipping mask does in Photoshop.
